Never Take Personal!

I was watching the Assembly of God General Council on the PC this week and heard Rick Warren talk about people. He said something that all of us need to know... never take it personal! Ministry is working with people. In fact nearly all Christian teaching and discipleship is based on dealing with people. Love, Forgiveness, patience and longsuffering are just a few of the character traits that we must display. The Lord has taught me so much on this subject or else I would have never made it. ALL… Continue

Passion Anyone?

I am recommending the book "Breakout Churches." It is a great book you should look into. I want to ask you a question... how is your passion level ? So often we become professional ministers who do what we do and do it well. When we started it was not this way. Can you remember those days? We were so hungry and passionate to do the work of the Lord. We truly wanted to see the lives of people changed. We wanted to MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the world. Often times pastors and church leaders end up doing… Continue

What Would You Say?

When I was a kid growing up I used to have this reoccurring day dream. I would see myself at one of our district meetings standing up before all the preachers and speaking my mind. Looking back I try to figure out why I wanted to do that and what was the reason behind the things I wanted to say. I am not saying that my youthful musings were profound or even accurate but I think it has to say something that I was so obsessed with the idea.

As I recall the memories I will share some of them here.… Continue

Weary Part Two

As we look as the ministry and being weary, we have to learn to monitor what we are really feeling so that we can answer the right questions with the right answers. So many times as pastors we are not really clear on what is going on inside of us. For us the wrong response can really affect a lot of people. So we have to truly manage our emotions and keep our heads clear. What I am saying is that we can just be tired or burnt out and allow it to destroy unrelated areas of our lives. If we will j… Continue

Weary!

Do you ever get weary being a pastor? The passion, drive and responsibility of pastoring has a unique affect on people. As we look across our congregations we are met with reality of the task before us. Most pastors have a strong desire to see their sheep grow and mature in Christ. We want them to make it through their struggles and we feel their pain. This kind of burden can really become intense.

I recall counseling with a young girl who had been severely molested for years. The case was one… Continue

Wayne,
I am doing a Tuesday Musings of a Pastor and sending to a growing number of ministers. Are you interested. How could it fit in with your heart? It is just down-home stories/insights of 33 years being a pastor...real...personal...truth...weaknesses...no boasting...no hero stories about me...
There are so many lonely, insecure pastors. So little can help so much.

Thanks, Wayne! We should see you guys this week-we're headed to Wise tomorrow assuming nothing comes up with Brian's work that would prevent the trip. We were supposed to leave yesterday, but Brian got something thrown his way so we were delayed. Hopefully he'll sneak out today with no additional assignments. :) See you soon!!
